Understanding Infertility: When Should Couples Seek Help?

Fertility concerns can feel private and heavy. Knowing when an evaluation is commonly recommended can make the next step less uncertain.

What does infertility mean?

The World Health Organization describes infertility as a disease of the reproductive system involving failure to achieve pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular, unprotected intercourse. Causes may involve female factors, male factors, a combination, or remain unexplained; it is not a reason to blame one partner.

When is an evaluation commonly recommended?

For people trying to conceive, guidance commonly recommends evaluation after 12 months when the female partner is under 35, and after 6 months at age 35 or older. Seek advice sooner for irregular or absent periods, a known reproductive condition, previous treatment, or another concern.

Why should both partners be considered?

Fertility assessment may involve the health and history of both partners. A clinician can review relevant records, cycles, medicines and prior tests, then discuss whether further evaluation or referral is appropriate. Bring reports to a visit rather than sending sensitive details through a public enquiry form.

Where can Ayurveda fit?

An Ayurvedic consultation may offer a space to discuss wellbeing and lifestyle questions, but it is not a substitute for evidence-based fertility evaluation or time-sensitive care. Discuss every medicine, therapy and supplement with your treating clinicians, and do not delay recommended investigations or assisted reproductive care.

Need individual advice?

A general article cannot assess your personal health. Speak with a qualified clinician and seek timely evaluation where appropriate.
